Don’t give me
If you wont miss it
Nor dash me
If it costs you nothing
My ingratitude may vex you
Such is the ingrate in me
That insists on motive
If I be for dumping
The thanks to me is due
Be satisfied with the good riddance
SHIT
Don’t give me
If you won’t take it
I lack a cesspit tank
My excuse for instant return
EXCUSE
Don’t give me
If it won’t hold waters
Of it, there are a thousand and one
Where a will is not.

Gift-
I tried severally to comment on this particular post, but I am always caught in-between. Why? In as much as I would want to selfishly agree with you, I find it ethically wrong to do so.
Gift, By its very essence, is a voluntary 'parting' from the giver to the taker. Sometimes, it may be missed and sometimes, it may not. This does not in any way diminish the gesture. What is important in this very act of giving is the spirit behind it.
I therefore think we should not meet a gesture so kind with ingratitude.
Have I succeeded in convincing you! It would have really been worth my while.
Well, thanks Yanju for your observation. I do appreciate gifts, but my point is that the motive of giving should be right. I hinted on that also in my other poem "The do-gooders".
David in the Holy Bible said " I will not give unto my God, what does not cost me anything". So also our giving should not see people as dumping ground for useless articles.
Thanks. (See now that i appreciate the advice you just gave?)
You sure have a pleasant way of wrapping your view(s), even though, I still dont totally agree with you.
Granted your view, there are times even those things you call 'useless articles' may turn out to be 'useful articles' to those who need them.
Maybe what we should do in giving out is to identify those who really need these things even though they may be 'useless' to us. Then it will be useful and appreciated. See? Nothing in nature is useless at the end of the day.
